A day of fishing, friendship and fun brought smiles to members of Ferriers Barn as Suffolk Freemasons hosted another successful Community Fishing Day at Hintlesham Fisheries.
The event welcomed members and staff from Ferriers Barn, a day centre supporting people with additional needs. They have been enjoying these special fishing days with Suffolk Freemasons for the past six years.
The day began with the Suffolk Masonic Fishing Team preparing breakfast for the volunteer anglers before welcoming their guests for a day of fishing, fresh air and friendship.

Each participant was paired with an experienced volunteer, ensuring everyone could enjoy the experience, regardless of their ability or previous fishing experience.
Nicola Goodman, Manager of Ferriers Barn, said: ‘Our members really look forward to this day every year. They love being out in the fresh air, enjoying the fishing and spending time with the team. It is always a highlight of their year.’
Over the years, the annual event has become about much more than catching fish, with lasting friendships developing between the volunteers and those attending.
Jon Neill, Provincial Grand Charity Steward for Suffolk Freemasons, said: ‘Many of our volunteers have got to know the members of Ferriers Barn well over the past six years, which makes these days even more special.
‘It is not just about fishing; it is about friendship, inclusion and making a difference to people’s lives. Seeing the smiles and enjoyment throughout the day is what makes it all worthwhile.’

The day concluded with a special presentation by Suffolk’s Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Ralph Robertson, who presented every participant with a certificate and medal to celebrate their achievements.
The event is part of Suffolk Freemasons’ ongoing community engagement programme, which supports local schools, charities and organisations throughout the county.
With more than 1,000 people enjoying Suffolk Masonic Community Fishing Days over the past decade, these events continue to show how a simple day by the water can make a lasting difference.
