Thousands more men in Wales will be supported by Prostate Cymru thanks to a new magnificent purpose-built vehicle supplied by South Wales Freemasons.
Prostate Cymru is a leading prostate health charity in Wales supporting men with benign prostate disease and prostate cancer. Raising awareness about prostate cancer and prostate diseases, educating men in Wales about the diseases and their risk. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in Wales and the risk increases to 1 in 3 if there is a family history of the disease.
Their awareness team provide free-of-charge workplace awareness sessions and talks to other groups.
This custom-made £120,000 exhibition vehicle will be a welcome sight in many towns, local villages, fetes, and numerous events across our region. It will be making its inaugural visit at The Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells at the end of July.
This project has taken in excess of 12 months of planning from the Freemasons of South Wales Masonic Benevolent Fund (MBF) and we are very proud that the production of the vehicle was carried out entirely by companies within South Wales.
The new vehicle was presented to Prostate Cymru by the Provincial Grand Master, Gerald Rowbottom, on behalf of South Wales Freemasons, in his capacity as Honorary President of the Masonic Benevolent Fund of South Wales. This followed an exceptional donation from local Freemason David Swain a member of the Brecknock Lodge, based in Brecon. The Masonic Benevolent Fund is supported entirely by Freemasons throughout the Province of South Wales.
Prostate Cymru Chief Executive Tina Tew said: “We’re very grateful to South Wales Freemasons for their generous gift of a new vehicle. Our charity has no national or government funding and relies on the kindness and generosity of its fundraisers.
"The charity is passionate about supporting men in Wales with prostate issues such as benign prostate disease and prostate cancer through education, awareness, medical training and research. The support from the South Wales Freemasons is more important than ever before”.
Gerald Rowbottom from South Wales Freemasons said: “I’m very pleased we’ve been able to support Prostate Cymru. It is anticipated that in the future prostate cancer will be the most commonly diagnosed cancer.
"This suggests there is a significant need to redouble efforts to increase awareness, treatments and research. The survival rate is improving but there is still a need to encourage early diagnosis as this can often lead to a more successful treatment.
"We are delighted to provide this vehicle to support the tremendous work that Prostate Cymru are completing in Wales.”
