Aditya Menon

Can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Aditya Menon. I’m 37 years old, and I’m from the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu.

How long have you been a Freemason for?

I’ve been a Freemason since 2017.

How did you get to know about Freemasonry?

I remember seeing some colourful regalia lying around the house when I was much younger, which sparked my curiosity. At that age, I amusingly compared it to the Royal Order of Water Buffalo from The Flintstones—just a playful childhood analogy for a fun, close-knit group with camaraderie.

What made you join Freemasonry?

When I was younger, we hosted a couple of District Grand Lodge meetings right outside our house, as my father’s office premises were leased to Lodge Anchor of Hope to host these ceremonies. I have vivid childhood memories of a huge congregation of Freemasons—some of whom I recognised—wearing very colourful regalia. Those moments stayed with me and eventually found their way onto my bucket list.

What did you think about Freemasonry before you joined?

I had attended a few family lunches at our Lodge and loved seeing people of all ages coming together, often with their families. It felt like a tradition rooted in togetherness and friendship—a fun, close-knit group with a genuine sense of camaraderie.

How has your experience been as a Freemason, and did it align with your expectations?

As a new Freemason, I had—and still have—a deep respect for the ceremony delivered by our experienced members. It also gave me a clearer sense of morality and self-awareness. It helped me realise the need to suppress road rage and become a calmer, more mindful version of myself.

What is it that fascinates you about being a member of the organisation, and how does it impact you personally?

What fascinates me is that Freemasonry is ever-evolving and never static. It requires constant effort—whether in ritual, duties, or life itself. In many ways, it mirrors life, always making you think about what lies ahead and the work still to be done.

What do you find to be the most rewarding aspect of being a Freemason?

Brotherhood.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining Freemasonry and why should they join?

Again, brotherhood. If someone enjoys socialising, becoming part of their community through charity, and improving their own life in their own unique way, Freemasonry offers a meaningful journey. Each Freemason follows his own path, faces his own obstacles, and grows at his own pace—never alone.

Lastly, if you want to explain Freemasonry in a phrase, what would it be?

A journey through life’s unknowns, discovering direction, and the best in yourself.

Aditya’s testimonial captures Freemasonry as a living journey—one that blends tradition, humour, self-reflection, and continuous personal growth, all grounded in the strength of brotherhood.
