What better way to hear about Freemasonry than from Freemasons themselves? A new series of video interviews published on the Lincolnshire Freemasons’ YouTube channel answers the question perfectly.

Brought together by Grantham Freemason Chris Watkin, the interviews may well provide answers to questions you’d never thought of, like why Covid enhanced the reputation of Freemasonry, how a phone call on a railway station can be life changing, and why membership and mentoring are two sides of the same coin.

Lincolnshire’s Provincial Communications Officer Stuart Pearcey said:

Developments in technology have transformed the way everyone shares and consumes information in the 21st century. Lincolnshire has harnessed that shift to present the reality of Freemasons and Freemasonry to audiences we couldn’t reach in any other way – without diluting the traditions at the heart of what we do and why we do it.

We’ve created a way to enhance our relevance in the 21st century without diluting the traditions which have kept us strong for more than 300 years.

He said the technology allowed us not only to make information available for people to see at their leisure in their own surroundings, but to have it there in perpetuity as a resource that could be reached by a new and ever-expanding audience.

That new audience includes people with a more modern mindset about how the world works. It’s from amongst them firstly that we can find the new members who’ll carry the traditions and strengths of Freemasonry into the future. Secondly, they’re the kind of people who bring with them the expertise and enthusiasm to show how our traditions are a beacon of security and an escape from the pressures of an uncertain and changing world. That’s something more and more people crave; we can see that in the statistics around deteriorating mental health.

The videos are part of the growing trend towards telling an audible story alongside the more traditional written word. UGLE’s Craftcast is doing that centrally, and Lincolnshire has launched its own version. That’s where Chris Watkin leads an informal forum of chat with regular presenters Simon Noden and Pete Richardson, alongside guests.

The Lincolnshire podcasts are being refined and developed with a view to sustainability. It’s reckoned that the ‘shelf life’ of a podcast series is relatively short – reaching 21 episodes it said to put any podcast into the top 1% of ‘broadcasts’.
