Celebrating 60 years in Freemasonry

Posted:

Dorset freemason Frank and Dorset Provincial Grand Master Graham Glazier

Frank is aged 87 and a member of the Lodge of Faith and Unanimity No. 417, which meets in Dorchester.

Frank was born in Lancashire in 1935 and is married to Jean with whom he had two children. Both Frank and Jean have stories of growing up in the War and sleeping in air-raid shelters. Jean grew up in Essex near Southend, where they met. They have three grandchildren.

Frank was a Water Engineer, working for local Water Boards and his Masonic career has really followed his working career. Jean worked in the Insurance industry.

Work took him to Essex from where he joined Freemasonry in 1962 in London, then to Bridport and St Mary’s Lodge 707. Here he was working for the old West Dorset Water Board as a Distribution Engineer.

He joined Bridport Victory Mark Lodge, later becoming Provincial Mark Organist. Work took him to Shaftesbury and the Lodge of Friendship and Sincerity 472 and keeping his London contacts joined Royal Colonial Institute Lodge in 1982 following the erasure of his Mother Lodge.

Following the formation of Wessex Water in 1974 he moved to Bath and worked at Wessex Water Headquarters overseeing problems in the whole of the Wessex Water area. He became a Wessex Water Ambassador making trips to USA, Antigua and Holland on their behalf, the latter involving joint work with Holland helping with supplies to third world countries and had some involvement with the setup of Water Aid, the worldwide Wessex Water Charity.

At the age of 53 he became seriously ill with kidney problems and had to retire from work, commencing dialysis treatment. 30 years ago he received a Kidney transplant which is still working.

Frank being a very grateful recipient of Kidney Treatment, Jean and Frank became visitors to the Dialysis Unit a couple of days a week, providing company and support for current patients. His support in this area resulted in him becoming Chairman and then President of the National Kidney Foundation.

Graham Glazier the Provincial Grand Master for Dorset and Most Excellent Grand Superintendent in and over Dorset visited Frank at his home in Dorchester to present the award on Monday.
