Vivaldi - The Four Seasons by Candlelight

Freemasons’ Hall is proud to partner with the Belmont Ensemble and Trafalgar Sinfonia for a series of concerts in 2023.

The Belmont Ensemble of London was founded by its Musical Director, Peter Dyson in 1991, winning instant critical acclaim. It is now one of the busiest and finest chamber orchestras in the capital.

Date: 20 May 2023

Time: 5pm and 7:30pm (Duration one hour)

Location: 60 Great Queen Street London WC2B 5AZ

The Orchestra was originally established to enable exceptional music graduates the opportunity to bridge the gap between leaving conservatoire and finding full-time employment, within a professional environment. In 1996 the Ensemble made their acclaimed debut at the Purcell Room, and in 1998 made their sold-out debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Belmont Ensemble members, past and present, can be found playing in all of the leading British orchestras including The Philharmonia, LPO, LSO and RPO, CBSO, Britten Sinfonia, English Concert and OAE and well as The Royal Opera House and English National Opera Orchestras.

The Trafalgar Sinfonia was founded by its musical director and inspiring British conductor Ivor Setterfield in 1992. Created originally to accompany both the New London Singers and the Codina Singers, it quickly developed a reputation as an outstanding ensemble in its own right. Now with an international following, it continues to attract some of the most talented and exciting young musicians, presenting a regular season of concerts at the famous St Martin-in-the-Fields in the heart of London. It also performs regularly at a number of other UK and international venues including the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

In addition to numerous notable solo orchestral performances at prestigious venues, the orchestra has maintained its close links with choirs and choral music. Its recordings include an album with the New London Singers (a selection of works by Vivaldi), a collection of English String Serenades, and to widespread critical acclaim, a new recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons coupled with a contemporary companion piece, Anno, by Oliver Davis.
