United Grand Lodge of England are looking to hire a Senior Project Manager for our IT department.

Background

UGLE is the governing body of Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Man consisting of 48 Provinces roughly based on the old county boundaries and 32 Districts overseas. English Freemasonry is a membership organisation of 175,000 people meeting in more than 7,000 Lodges across the globe. Membership is open to any man over the age of 18 irrespective of their background, race or religion, with students also able to join one of 87 University Scheme Lodges. The largest Province in UGLE is Metropolitan in London with many Lodges meeting at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden which also serves as the Headquarters for English Freemasonry worldwide. 

Freemasons’ Hall is a unique art deco building which can date its origins back to 1769 when Freemasons first started meeting at this site. The current building was completed in 1933 as a memorial to those who died in the Great War. It houses 22 meeting rooms including some unique spaces regularly used for major international events and as film locations. The Hall itself provides a magnificent meeting place for UK and international masonic lodges. It is open to both Freemasons and the general public who are provided with both self-guided audio tours as well as guided tours of the facilities.  The Museum of Freemasonry with one of the finest collections of masonic artefacts and archives in the world, is housed within the building.

Purpose of the Job

This role is a key position within the development team, responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving delivery of the membership system migration programme and the ongoing where there is shared development, the roadmap and maintenance of the organisation’s booking system. The post holder will work closely with internal development teams, governance committees, dependent departments such as communications, marketing and support, and third-party development partners to manage timelines, risks, and dependencies across multiple workstreams. They will provide programme-level coordination, ensure that communication and expectations are clear and timely, and help the organisation move through a complex, incremental migration to a modern cloud-based architecture in a structured and supported way.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage projects within the membership migration programme and booking system roadmap.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage the Hermes / ADelphi functional shutdown sequence
  • Act as a driver for programme-level planning while working within agreed governance and departmental responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain project and programme plans, schedules, roadmaps, risk registers, and dependency maps
  • Coordinate multiple internal workstreams, ensuring alignment across development, communications, marketing, support and other dependent departments
  • Interface with governance and steering groups, preparing and maintaining programme management documentation, including high-level overviews and detailed views as required
  • Manage day-to-day project progress across a development team of approximately five to ten people
  • Support hybrid agile delivery, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and incremental release planning
  • Balance modular, iterative delivery with necessary waterfall-style phases for larger modules spanning several sprints
  • Coordinate and synchronise with third-party development partners, including alignment of plans, risks, budgets, and timelines
  • Manage project budgets and timeframes, providing accurate reporting and early visibility of variances
  • Ensure communication, training, and support waves are clearly defined and planned, providing a master plan for dependent departments to execute
  • Support definition and tracking of KPIs related to migration progress and booking system performance
  • Identify, log, and manage risks and issues, driving mitigation and escalation where necessary
  • Facilitate clear communication and expectation management between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Maintain understanding of the technical environment, including cloud architectures, APIs, PWAs, SPAs, to inform realistic planning
  • Produce clear written documentation and reports suitable for senior leadership and governance committees
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project and programme management practices
  • Managing (in conjunction with the CIO) the interface with the Governance Committee.

 Hours

The successful applicant is required to work 35 hours per week Monday to Friday.
