Geoffrey Dearing was born in Maidstone in 1948 in which area his family have lived for many years.
He is a former Managing Partner of one of Kent’s largest law firms and a past President of the Kent Law Society. Although he retired from full-time practice some years ago he continues with an interest in the law, travelling the country to lecture upon anti money laundering and other regulatory issues.
Formerly Chairman of a public company and still on the Board of four small private companies Geoffrey has, for several years, served as Vice Chairman of an educational trust which is responsible for two secondary school academies. He also serves on the Board of a charitable trust which supports disadvantaged young people in Kent.
Initiated into freemasonry in February 1974, he was appointed Past Assistant Grand Registrar in 1994 and served on the Commission for Appeals Courts from 2007. He was appointed Provincial Grand Master of, and Grand Superintendent in and over East Kent in 2011.
Appointed to the Board of General Purposes by the Grand Master, he became President of the Board of General Purposes on 1 January 2018.
