Communications Executive

United Grand Lodge of England seeks a Communications Executive for the Membership and Communications Department. You will have a passion for all things marketing and technology. You will be well versed in the concepts surrounding digital marketing and how the Internet can become a strong asset to promoting key messages and gaining new members. You will be tech-savvy and highly motivated to take on responsibility and make an impact!

Background

UGLE is the governing body of Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man consisting of 48 Provinces roughly based on the old county boundaries and 32 Districts overseas. English Freemasonry is a membership organisation of 175,000 people meeting in more than 7,000 Lodges across the globe. Membership is open to any man over the age of 18 irrespective of their background, race or religion, with students also able to join one of 87 University Scheme Lodges. The largest Province in UGLE is Metropolitan in London with many Lodges meeting at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden which also serves as the Headquarters for English Freemasonry worldwide. 

Freemasons’ Hall is a unique art deco building which can date its origins back to 1769 when Freemasons first started meeting at this site. The current building was completed in 1933 as a memorial to those who died in the Great War. It houses 22 meeting rooms including some unique spaces regularly used for major international events and as film locations. The Hall itself provides a magnificent meeting place for UK and international masonic lodges. It is open to both Freemasons and the general public who are provided with both self-guided audio tours as well as guided tours of the facilities.  The Museum of Freemasonry with one of the finest collections of masonic artefacts and archives in the world, is housed within the building.

Duties:

Website support and maintenance

  • Ensuring regular updates of new content on the UGLE website 
  • Tracking, reporting and analysing website analytics and campaigns.
  • Ensure that all copy is sympathetic to SEO principles to maximise the reach of our messaging.
  • Managing the Brand Centre by regularly adding new content and maintaining user access.
  • Supporting the Web Content Manager in conducting regular web audits to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Supporting the Web Content Manager by presenting new and innovative ideas to improve the public-facing website.
  • Reviewing affiliated websites to maintain consistency with UGLE's branding and messaging.
  • Demonstrate and present new and innovative ideas to propel the business forward across multiple channels.
  • Monitor industry trends, website developments and competitor strategies.
  • Working with key stakeholders across the organisation to help create content for their individual areas i.e. our Universities Scheme, the Members’ Pathway and others

Content creation

  • Taking charge of the content plan by writing and publishing regular articles to engage the audience and drive web traffic for the blog.
  • Creating and edit video content to support the digital magazine and enhance multimedia engagement.
  • Creating engaging articles, conducting interviews, and working on graphics for the digital magazine.
  • Developing and distributing a monthly newsletter through Mail chimp to keep members and subscribers informed about the latest news, updates, and offers related to our organization’s activities and services.

Solomon

  • Working with the Web Content Manager to manage and enhance the Solomon platform 
  • Conversion of existing Solomon content into additional formats for increased accessibility.
  • Creation of photographic content for Solomon and wider use.
  • Ongoing organisation and promotion of monthly ‘Solomon Live’ webinars.
  • Editing of ‘Solomon Live’ recordings prior to upload to Solomon
  • Working with volunteers to edit, research reference and fact check material before it is published on Solomon
  • Attending regular weekly and monthly Learning and Development Group meetings
  • Liaising with Learning and Development Leads and acting as a point of contact.

Must have skills: 

  • You will be someone with excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to work with colleagues co-operatively and collaboratively in the team and across the organisation. You will have the ability to work closely with the existing team and key partners to deliver a strategy that engages both UGLE’s members and members of the public by showcasing the benefits of Freemasonry
  • Proven experience as a copywriter with a strong portfolio showcasing your copywriting skills including a range of styles, tone of voice and execution in multiple channels.
  • Experience with video creation, both in the development of concepts and the execution of the project.
  • Demonstrable knowledge & experience of writing SEO copy and content for digital and social channels;
  • You will have at least 1-year experience with copywriting for web, website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) plus implementing click funnels and optimising journeys. Experience with SEO tools and email platforms is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Premiere Pro) or equivalent design and video editing tools.
  • You will have the ability to work closely with the existing team and key partners to deliver a creative digital marketing strategy that engages UGLE’s members and members of the public by showcasing the benefits of Freemasonry across all media channels.
  • You will have a flexible approach both to the type of work undertaken and working hours as required to meet team objectives and ultimately customer needs, taking ownership and responsibility for work and performance. You will demonstrate a positive ‘can do’ attitude, proactive mind set and excellent work ethic. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate resilience and present yourself in a professional manner at all times.

Hours of work:

Full time (35 hours per week) Monday to Friday
